"Chicago Officials Commit $250 Million for Migrant Aid"

Illinois and Cook County plan to allocate an additional $252 million to provide housing, food, and services to illegal immigrants in Chicago, bringing the total commitment to over $600 million. The state and county have already spent significant funds on supporting more than 35,000 migrants who have arrived in the past year and a half. Despite the decrease in migrants staying at shelters, the state and county are seeking additional funding to maintain shelter and services. Chicago's Mayor Brandon Johnson has not committed additional funds, citing unresolved matters and previous unfulfilled state pledges.
