ICE Operation in DC Area Arrests Over 1,300 Across VA and MD
DHS said more than 1,300 illegal immigrants were arrested during a two-week operation called Operation Safe Community – Washington, D.C., spanning Virginia and Maryland and targeting offenders with criminal histories. The agency noted arrests in the D.C. suburbs (including individuals with violent or sexual-crime histories) and said roughly 400 arrestees had prior convictions or charges in the United States, with groups such as MS-13 involved. ICE officials framed the operation as removing dangerous criminal offenders from communities, while DHS Secretary Mullin criticized sanctuary policies in Virginia and Maryland and proponents called it a public-safety measure.
