Chicago mayoral candidate Brandon Johnson, who is in the runoff election against Paul Vallas, struggled to defend past comments indicating support for the "defund the police" movement. Johnson denied support for the movement but has made comments in the past about redirecting and removing funding from police departments. During a mayoral forum, Johnson was pressed on his past remarks and his thinking on the issue, to which he responded that his thinking has not changed. The issue also arose during the debate between the two candidates.
