"Controversy Surrounds Virginia's Proposed Potomac Yard Arena Funding"
TL;DR
The Virginia legislation for a new sports and entertainment authority, paving the way for an arena in Alexandria for the Washington Wizards and the Washington Capitals, has passed in the House of Delegates and is now in the hands of the Senate Finance & Appropriations Committee. The committee chair, Sen. L. Louise Lucas, will decide whether to advance, delay, or kill the bill. The proposed project involves significant private and public investment, with the potential for new tax revenues to fund a large portion of the development. Even if the bill passes, it would still require approval from the Alexandria City Council.
