Derek Tran Wins California's 45th District, Flipping Seat for Democrats
TL;DR
Democratic candidate Derek Tran has won the race for California's 45th Congressional District after Republican incumbent Michelle Steel conceded. Tran, a political newcomer and son of Vietnamese refugees, emphasized pro-choice policies, increased educational spending, and healthcare access during his campaign. Steel, a Korean American immigrant, sought to increase police funding and lower taxes. The district, with a significant Asian American population, will now be represented by Tran, marking a significant shift in one of the nation's most competitive districts.
