DeSantis aligns with Trump on aggressive immigration policy

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized former President Donald Trump's unfinished U.S.-Mexico border wall and called for its completion if elected. He also proposed ending "catch and release," blocking entry for asylum seekers, and denying citizenship to children born in the U.S. to parents living here illegally. DeSantis viewed the southern border from a helicopter and criticized the porous nature of Trump's wall. He also criticized President Joe Biden's handling of the border and vowed to employ executive authority to crack down on border crossings. DeSantis hopes to make the issue a problem for his leading Republican competitor, Trump, who ran in 2016 on a mantra of building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
