DeSantis-controlled Disney World district dismantles diversity and equity programs

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, now controlled by appointees of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, has abolished diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, including the elimination of the diversity committee and related job duties. The move aligns with DeSantis' agenda of curtailing such initiatives in higher education and other sectors. The district's new administrator, Glenton Gilzean, called these initiatives "illegal and simply un-American." This decision comes after a yearlong feud between Disney and DeSantis, which resulted in the governor taking over the district and appointing a new board of supervisors. Disney has sued DeSantis and his appointees, claiming a violation of free speech rights.
