Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is expected to announce his bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination soon, deflected a reporter's question about his lagging poll numbers behind former President Donald Trump during a press conference in Tokyo. DeSantis reportedly intends to launch a White House run later this year, with an announcement expected after the Florida legislative session wraps up May 5. The Florida governor and his wife, Casey, were in Japan to meet with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and discussed "security challenges in the region" involving North Korea and China. DeSantis will travel next to South Korea and the United Kingdom, as well as to Israel to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Jewish state's independence.
