DeSantis seeks federal aid for historic flood damages in Fort Lauderdale and Broward.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has requested that the Biden administration declare Broward County a disaster area due to flooding caused by record rainfall earlier this month. If granted, residents and local governments would be eligible for loans and other assistance. The flooding caused severe damage to about 1,000 homes and closed the airport for almost two days. DeSantis is expected to announce his candidacy for the Republican nomination to challenge President Joe Biden in next year's election.
