Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks Tennessee Drag Show Restrictions

A federal judge has granted a temporary restraining order blocking a Tennessee law that criminalized drag shows in public or where they could be seen by children. The judge found the law to be "likely both vague and overly-broad" and in violation of the First Amendment. The law was contested by Friends of George's, an LGBTQ theater group, who argued that the law's language could mean just about anywhere. The judge acknowledged that the restraining order was an "extraordinary remedy" but necessary to protect free speech.
