Florida House approves permitless gun bill, removes training requirement.

The Florida House passed a bill that would allow people to carry concealed firearms without a permit or training. The legislation passed 76-32, but does not allow for open carry in public. Pro-gun advocates are disappointed that the bill does not go far enough in protecting Second Amendment rights, while gun safety advocates argue that the removal of training requirements makes the public less safe. Democrats also argued that the bill would increase the risk of profiling and would acutely impact Black communities. The permitless carry legislation is also available for a vote on the Senate floor, but hasn’t yet been scheduled.
