Former Tufts student returns to Turkey after settlement with U.S. on immigration case

Rümeysa Öztürk, a former Tufts graduate student detained by U.S. authorities over a co-authored op-ed on Palestine, returned to Turkey after a settlement that terminates her U.S. immigration proceedings. The joint request to dismiss the case ends the dispute, DHS noted she remained in lawful nonimmigrant status, and the government will treat her SEVIS record as if the termination never occurred, allowing the possibility of future return while she continues her scholarly work.
