GOP Lawmaker: Trump's Bid for Speaker of the House "Not Going to Happen"

Republican lawmaker Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado dismissed the idea of former President Donald Trump becoming the Speaker of the House, stating that it "shouldn't happen" and that there is plenty of talent within the House Republican conference to elect a new leader. Trump had previously expressed openness to temporarily accepting the speakership if Republicans were unable to reach a decision. Buck also mentioned that he is withholding support for a candidate until Republicans come to an agreement on government spending.
