GOP‑only path as Dems withhold on shutdown vote
TL;DR
Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries told Speaker Mike Johnson that Democrats won’t vote to end the partial government shutdown, forcing Johnson to rely on nearly all GOP support for a two-week DHS funding bill tied to ICE/CBP reforms, while Democrats, including progressives, oppose the package and Senate Democrats are split; House GOP factions such as the Freedom Caucus are pressuring against the plan, complicating Johnson’s path and potentially prolonging the shutdown.
