GOP's Loyalty to Trump Tested by Federal Indictment

Despite the latest federal indictment against former President Donald Trump, few of his Republican rivals seeking the presidency have criticized him. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Sen. Tim Scott, and several lower-tier candidates turned their criticism on the Justice Department, while others remained silent or said they were waiting for more information. Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson was the only prominent Republican in the race to take a harder line against Trump, reiterating an earlier call for him to withdraw from the race. Trump was indicted on seven criminal charges in connection with his mishandling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, making him the first former president to face federal criminal charges.
