Government seeks December start for Trump classified documents trial.

Special Counsel Jack Smith has proposed that the trial of former President Donald Trump, who is facing 37 felony charges related to the mishandling of classified documents, begin in December due to the involvement of classified information in the case. U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon had earlier called for the trial to open on August 14, but lawyers said there was virtually no chance of the trial beginning that soon. Trump and his personal aide, who is a co-defendant in the case, agree that the August trial date should be put off but disagree with the prosecution’s proposed schedule.
