House Republicans have announced that they will release most of the security footage captured on Capitol Hill during the January 6th attack, with 40,000 out of 44,000 hours of video being posted online on a rolling basis. The faces of private citizens will be blurred for their protection, and about 5% of the footage containing sensitive security information will be withheld. The decision aims to provide millions of Americans, criminal defendants, public interest organizations, and the media with the opportunity to see for themselves what happened that day. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy had previously provided access to the footage to Tucker Carlson, who broadcast selected snippets that sparked backlash from Republicans.
