A federal appeals judge in Illinois has temporarily put the state's strict ban on some rifles and high-capacity magazines back into effect, blocking a lower court judge's ruling that had blocked the law. The gun control law, signed by Democratic Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker in January, has been challenged on constitutional grounds by three federal lawsuits and a state lawsuit filed by gun owners and gun rights groups. The law includes penalties for anyone who carries or possesses, manufactures, sells, delivers, imports, or purchases any assault weapon or .50 caliber rifle.
