Justice Department Special Counsel Contacts Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp in Election Probes

The Justice Department special counsel, Jack Smith, has contacted Georgia Governor Brian Kemp as part of the investigation into the 2020 election. Former President Donald Trump had pressured Kemp to overturn the election results in Georgia, but Kemp refused. Trump's efforts to undermine Kemp's reelection campaign were unsuccessful. Smith's team has also reached out to former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. The investigation is focused on Trump's attempts to organize fake electors and sway Vice President Mike Pence into blocking the certification of the election results. Trump has received a target letter and is potentially facing charges related to deprivation of rights, conspiracy, and witness tampering.
