Louisiana Bans Transgender Minors from Receiving Transition Care with Bipartisan Support

Louisiana has passed a ban on transgender treatment for minors with a "veto-proof" majority, making it likely to become one of several states to restrict or ban transgender surgery for minors. The bill's sponsor, Republican Louisiana State Rep. Gabe Firment, celebrated the passage of the bill and thanked detransitioners, physicians, advocates, and parents for their support. The ban received bipartisan support and was revived in June after initially failing in a legislative committee in May. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, has not yet commented on the bill.
