Marjorie Taylor Greene's $100K Bid for Kevin McCarthy's Used Chapstick

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) won an auction for a tube of "used" lip balm purportedly belonging to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for $100,000 during a fundraiser for the National Republican Congressional Committee. The item was actually an unused campaign trinket, and the unhygienic element was a gag. McCarthy sweetened the deal by throwing in a fundraising dinner for the victor. The auction was led by freshman Rep. Aaron Bean (R-Fla.), and other Republican lawmakers also placed bids. The fundraiser occurred during debt ceiling negotiations with the White House.
