Menefee clinches Houston-area House seat in all-Democrat runoff, eyeing 2026 term
TL;DR
Democrat Christian Menefee won the Texas 18th Congressional District special runoff to fill the 11-month vacancy after Sylvester Turner’s death, defeating Amanda Edwards and setting up a bid for a full term in the redrawn district as Democrats maintain a fragile House majority (218-214) with other vacancies pending; the race centered on affordability and was shaped by the district’s history of Black representation and recent redistricting.
