The group of Republicans had signed a document falsely stating they were the state's "duly elected and qualified electors." Renner's cooperation agreement includes providing information about the meeting where the fake elector certificates were signed. Michigan was the first state to charge individuals in connection with attempting to join a slate of "fake electors."
