Michigan Republicans Deny Involvement as 'Fake Electors' in 2020 Election

Nine Michigan Republicans, including current and former GOP officials, have pleaded not guilty to charges of acting as "fake electors" in the 2020 presidential election. They are accused of attempting to replace Michigan's electoral votes for Joe Biden with votes for Donald Trump. The defendants allegedly met covertly and signed false documents, which were then transmitted to the Senate and National Archives. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel stated that their actions undermined the public's faith in the election's integrity. The defendants are scheduled to return to court on August 18.
