Michigan's Efforts to Reverse Population Loss and Address Community Disparities

Hilary Doe has been appointed as Michigan's first Chief Growth Officer, tasked with reversing the state's population stagnation by bringing new residents to the state and retaining the ones it already has. Michigan experienced the second-slowest population growth in the nation over the previous decade, and since the 2020 census, the state has lost population. Doe will work closely with the new "Growing Michigan Together Council" charged with putting forward recommendations before the end of the year to attract and retain residents, develop long-term funding for infrastructure, and improve educational outcomes.
