Minnesota's Legal Cannabis: Concerns, Regulations, and Settlements.

Law enforcement leaders in Minnesota are raising concerns about the legalization of cannabis, particularly in relation to driving under the influence. Unlike alcohol, there is no approved test in the US to determine if someone is actively under the influence of marijuana or THC. Additionally, THC can remain in someone's system for up to 45 days, making it difficult to determine if someone is actively under the influence. Law enforcement leaders are also concerned about an increase in emergency room visits, long-term mental health issues, and deadly crashes if proper regulations aren't in place. The bill currently establishes a pilot program for a DWI test for cannabis, but law enforcement leaders are encouraging lawmakers to pump the brakes on the bill so more research can be done on how to properly implement the legalization of cannabis.
