Missouri Governor signs controversial bills targeting transgender youth.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has signed a bill that bans gender-affirming care for transgender minors and some adults, including puberty blockers, hormones, and gender-affirming surgeries. The law will come into effect on August 28, 2021, and will expire in 2027. The state has also banned transgender girls and women from playing on female sports teams from kindergarten through college. The bans come amid a national push by conservatives to put restrictions on transgender and nonbinary people. Legal challenges to the laws are possible.
