Montana's Republican governor has signed a bill banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, making it the latest state to do so despite protests from families of transgender youth that the care is essential. The bill has drawn national attention after Republicans punished transgender lawmaker Zooey Zephyr for her remarks, saying her words were personally offensive. The Montana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics has said the bill "takes decisions that should be made by families and physicians and puts them in the hands of politicians." Lambda Legal, the American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Montana have said they would file a court challenge against the ban.
