Nebraska's Controversial Legislative Debates Lead to Arrests and Passages of New Acts.

A bill banning sex change procedures for minors and abortion after 12 weeks of pregnancy was approved by lawmakers in Nebraska and sent to the governor's desk to become law. During the debate, Democratic Senator Machaela Cavanaugh shouted her support for transgender people and warned that people, medical professionals, and businesses will leave the state over the bill. The bill includes exceptions for rape and incest and allows some exceptions for minors who were already receiving treatment before the ban was enacted. At least six people were arrested at the Nebraska state capitol building after lawmakers passed the bill.
