Ohio GOP Attempts to Manipulate Ballot Language for Anti-Abortion Agenda and Voter Suppression

GOP-led states are attempting to change the rules governing the ballot measure process, making it more difficult for initiatives to get on the ballot and win approval. In Ohio, Republican lawmakers are pushing to raise the threshold for passing amendments to the state constitution from a simple majority to 60%. Abortion-rights supporters are running two campaigns surrounding ballot measures, one that aims to defeat the proposed supermajority threshold in August, and a second with the goal of approving the abortion rights ballot initiative in November. Nationwide efforts to change requirements for the voter-referendum process have been introduced in 140 bills in state legislatures, with 12 measures enacted so far.
