The Ohio House has approved measures that would ban gender-affirming care for transgender minors, ban transgender girls from competing in girls sports, and require schools to notify parents about any changes to their child’s mental, emotional or physical well-being, which critics warn could forcibly out LGBTQ+ students. Proponents argue that they are motivated by protecting children, while opponents argue that the measures directly target or indirectly affect Ohio’s transgender youth and are unnecessary and dangerous. The bills will now move to the Senate for further consideration.
