Ohio Republicans push for August election to change state constitution.

Ohio is holding its first statewide August election in almost 100 years, with a vote from Republican state lawmakers to make it harder to amend the state constitution on August 8. The measure would require a 60% supermajority of Ohioans to approve changes to the state constitution, compared to the current 50% simple majority. The measure could affect any number of future ballot issues, but would have the most immediate consequences for a potential abortion rights ballot aimed for the November ballot.
