Oklahoma Officials Face Resignation Calls Over Racist and Violent Remarks

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has called for the resignation of four McCurtain County officials after a secret audio recording was released, allegedly capturing them making racist remarks about lynching Black people and talking about killing journalists. The recording was made hours after a Gazette-News reporter filed a lawsuit against the sheriff’s office, Manning and the Board of County Commissioners, alleging they had defamed him and violated his civil rights. The recording has yet to be authenticated or validated, and the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the matter.
