"Republican Infighting Threatens US Government Shutdown"
TL;DR
With just a week before the federal government runs out of funding, warring factions within the Republican Party in Congress are showing no signs of coming together to pass a stopgap funding bill. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy plans to push for approval of four large bills, including military and homeland security funding, in an attempt to win support from far-right Republicans. However, some Republicans are demanding deeper spending cuts and refuse to support temporary funding measures. The possibility of a government shutdown looms as negotiations continue.
