Rhode Island Officials Investigated for Disturbing Behavior on Official Trip

Rhode Island officials are being investigated for "bizarre, offensive and unprofessional" behavior during an official trip to Philadelphia in March. A Philadelphia developer has accused one official of making racist and sexist remarks, and has said another declined to stop him. The officials were visiting a building that the developer had redeveloped, as the developer was seeking state funding from Rhode Island for a contract it had won to redevelop a state-owned former armory in Providence, at a cost of $55 million. The Rhode Island governor’s office has asked the state police and state human resources officials to conduct investigations connected to the tour.
