RNC presses NJ for records on noncitizen voters, threatens legal action

The Republican National Committee warned of legal action against New Jersey election officials to obtain records on noncitizens on the state’s voter rolls, giving six counties until Sept. 15 to produce documents related to noncitizen removals and citizenship verification. Gov. Mikie Sherrill said a DMV software error left about 6,600 noncitizens on the rolls, with up to 400 ballots cast by them. Bergen County shows 134 noncitizens removed, 91 linked to the MVC; the state says roughly 5,100 were removed for eligibility issues, about 1,450 changed to rejected, 340 newly registered voters voted, and about 220 affected individuals may have had valid prior registrations. The RNC argues these findings reveal vulnerabilities and urges full NVRA-compliant records.
