Senate rejects fifth bid to curb Trump's Iran war powers

The Senate defeated Democrats’ fifth attempt to curb President Trump’s power to use force against Iran, with a 46–51 vote to discharge the measure from committee. The proposal would require U.S. forces to withdraw from hostilities unless Congress authorizes war. Led by Sen. Tammy Baldwin, Democrats fell short as Sen. John Fetterman sided with Republicans and Rand Paul supported the Democrats. The move comes as Trump extended a two-week ceasefire and, with the 60-day War Powers clock approaching, could be extended to 90 days if the president certifies unavoidable military necessity. Senate Republicans say they’ll continue to consider war-powers votes, while Democrats vow to press weekly efforts until Republicans join in.
