"Senate Republicans Link Ukraine Aid to Border Security Demands"

Senate Republicans, including Lindsey Graham, Tom Cotton, and James Lankford, have unveiled a list of immigration reforms they will demand be attached to any foreign aid package funding the war in Ukraine. Their proposals include resuming construction of the southwestern border wall, reforming asylum laws, cracking down on humanitarian parole of illegal migrants, and denying asylum to migrants who cross through safe third countries before coming to the United States. The Republicans want to raise the standard for asylum requests, require asylum requests at legal ports of entry, reduce delays in deportation proceedings, end "catch and release," and prohibit the use of broad class-based criteria for humanitarian parole. The proposals are likely to face resistance from Democrats.
