South Carolina enacts strict abortion law.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has signed a six-week abortion ban into law, effective immediately. The bill includes exceptions for fatal fetal anomalies, the mother's life, and rape and incest up to 12 weeks. Doctors could face felony charges carrying two years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine. Planned Parenthood says it will challenge the ban in court, where it was successful in 2021 after Gov. Henry McMaster signed the Heartbeat Bill into law. The proposal restores a ban South Carolina had in place when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year.
