"Suburban Influence on New York's Housing Crisis"

New York Governor Kathy Hochul is facing resistance from suburban communities in her quest to build 800,000 new housing units over the next decade and ease the state's housing crisis. Hochul's plan would force suburbs to expand their housing stock every three years by set percentages and allow at least 50 homes per acre to be built within a half-mile of many Long Island Railroad and Metro-North stations. However, local officials argue that too much new housing could strain sewers, roads, and other local infrastructure.
