Colin Allred, a Democratic challenger to Texas Senator Ted Cruz in the upcoming Senate race, said in a resurfaced video from 2018 that it would have been "better" if the Second Amendment "hadn’t been written." Allred clarified that he supports common-sense gun reforms and respects the rights of law-abiding gun owners. He also voted for Texas GOP Senator John Cornyn's Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which enhances background checks for gun buyers and provides funding for health and mental health-related programs. Allred's campaign raised $2 million in the first 36 hours since launching his campaign.
