Texas Congressman Endorses DeSantis for President Ahead of Announcement

Republican Congressman Chip Roy has endorsed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, despite DeSantis not yet announcing an official bid. Roy's endorsement is notable as he broke with former President Trump ahead of and on Jan. 6, 2021, and is one of the most vocal hard-line Republicans in the House. Roy praised DeSantis's "faith in god" and controversial policy moves, including rejecting mask mandates during COVID-19 and sending migrants to Martha's Vineyard. Roy called for a "new generation of leadership" and pledged to support whoever becomes the 2024 Republican nominee.
