Tlaib Defies McCarthy's Ban on Pro-Palestinian Event.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., moved her anti-Israel event recognizing the "Nakba" to a Senate hearing room after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy canceled it, calling it "antisemitic." Tlaib accused McCarthy of trying to "erase the existence and truth of the Palestinian people" and vowed that Palestinian Americans "will not be silenced." The Nakba is a Palestinian term for the 1948 founding of Israel that translates to "catastrophe." McCarthy preempted Tlaib by reserving the same event space on the House side of the Capitol for a bipartisan commemoration of Israel's 75th anniversary.
