Transgender Texas Teen Navigates Anti-LGBTQ Legislation in Planning Future

Texas is on the verge of joining over a dozen other states in banning transition-related care for minors, including hormone therapy and puberty blockers, which medical groups and LGBTQ advocates say is vital for a portion of the youth population at high risk for depression and suicide. Senate Bill 14, which would bar transgender youth from receiving such treatments, has already cleared the Senate and is headed for the House floor. The legislation would require that trans Texans under the age of 18 already receiving transition-related care be “weaned off” of their treatments and eventually stop taking them.
