Trump's Defense Secretary Pick Pete Hegseth Sparks Pentagon Controversy
TL;DR
Senator Mark Kelly expressed surprise at President-elect Trump's nomination of Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host, for Secretary of Defense, stating he had not heard of him before. Hegseth's confirmation will require Senate approval, potentially needing Democratic support. Kelly, a former Navy captain, emphasized the importance of experience in policy creation for such roles. He also criticized other Trump cabinet picks, like Matt Gaetz for Attorney General and Tulsi Gabbard for Director of National Intelligence, and condemned Trump's plan to purge senior Pentagon generals as unprecedented.
