Trump's Presidential Immunity Appeal Denied in E. Jean Carroll Defamation Case

A federal appeals court has rejected former President Donald Trump's claim of presidential immunity in a defamation lawsuit filed by writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused Trump of rape. The court upheld previous decisions that Trump had waived his right to defense of presidential immunity by failing to raise it earlier in the case. Carroll is seeking at least $10 million in damages for Trump's statements in 2019, when he denied knowing her and accused her of fabricating the story. The trial is set to begin on January 16, 2024.
