Washington State Bans AR-15 Sales in Sweeping Gun Control Package

Washington state has banned the sale of assault weapons, including the AR-15, which has been used in some of the deadliest mass shootings in the United States. The bill prohibits the “manufacture, importation, distribution, selling, and offering for sale of assault weapons” and lists dozens of specific firearms. The White House praised the legislation, which makes “every community in the state — from Seattle to Spokane and everywhere in between — safer and more secure.” Washington is the 10th U.S. state to generally ban assault weapons. Opponents of the legislation say it violates the Second Amendment.
