Wisconsin Governor Vetoes Bill Banning Gender-Affirming Care for Minors

Democratic Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has vetoed a bill passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature that aimed to ban gender-affirming care for minors. The bill would have prohibited gender-affirming surgeries, puberty blockers, and hormone treatments for minors in Wisconsin. Evers, who has promised to reject proposals harmful to LGBTQ+ youth, stated that such legislation harms LGBTQ+ individuals, promotes hate and violence, and threatens the safety and dignity of LGBTQ+ Wisconsinites. At least 22 states have enacted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, with many facing legal challenges.
