Controversial Pro-Palestine Graffiti Sparks Outrage in Squirrel Hill

Pro-Palestine graffiti was found in multiple locations in Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh, including outside a high school and on yard signs near a Jewish private school. The incidents occurred one day before the five-year commemoration of the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting. The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh condemned the vandalism as "despicable" and considered it an antisemitic incident. There has been an uptick in antisemitic activity in the area since the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas. The Council of American Islamic Relations condemned the vandalism but stated that displaying a Pro-Palestine sign in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood would not be antisemitic. Both antisemitism and Islamophobia have seen increases since the conflict began.
