Portland to Have First Affordable Housing for Older LGBTQ+ Adults in the State.

The Equality Community Center and Developers Collaborative are developing the first affordable housing complex for LGBTQ+ people and their allies over age 55 in Maine. The complex will have 55 studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units and will be built in Portland. While the housing will be open to anyone over the age of 55, it will have community standards requiring respect for members of the LGBTQ+ community. The project is still in the planning stages, with an expected construction start date of spring 2024. The developers are asking the city for about $3.3 million in Affordable Housing Development Funding.
